Friday 20 March 2026: Close to 40 Ramsay Postgraduate Scholars from across the US, UK and Europe gathered in Berlin recently for the Ramsay Centre’s annual Postgraduate Leadership Development Workshop, an intensive residential program focused on leadership, critical thinking and professional growth.

Held from 13–15 March, the three‑day workshop brought together scholars, academics and senior leaders for discussions on leadership development, entrepreneurship, geopolitics, the humanities in the age of artificial intelligence, and European history and politics.

Led by Ramsay Centre CEO Dr Martin Fahy, the program combined expert‑led sessions, group exercises, reflective discussions and cultural immersion designed to challenge scholars intellectually and support their development as future leaders.

A highlight of the workshop was a formal dinner at Berlin’s Humboldt Forum, where scholars were joined by distinguished guest and keynote speaker HE Angus Campbell AO, Ambassador to Belgium and former Chief of the Australian Defence Force from 2018 until 2024.

Addressing the scholars, HE Angus Campbell AO shared reflections on leadership, service and responsibility, drawing on his extensive experience in public service and national leadership. The dinner provided an opportunity for scholars to engage directly with one of Australia’s most senior and respected leaders, and to reflect on leadership in a global and historical context.

The workshop featured contributions from leading academics, including University of Cambridge Associate Professor in History Dr William O’Reilly, Vice‑Master and Director of Studies in History at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge Dr Bernhard Fulda, and Bard College Berlin Professor of Politics Professor Boris Vormann.

Other speakers and facilitators included Joshi Herrmann, Founder and Editor of Mill Media; Hannah Purkiss, Chief Operating Officer of IntoUniversity; and senior industry and policy leaders who contributed both in person and online.

As part of the program’s cultural and historical component, scholars participated in a guided walking tour of Berlin’s sites of political and historical significance, led by Dr Bernhard Fulda, as well as an exclusive tour of the Humboldt Forum (City Palace) with Dr Alfred Hagemann, Head of History at the Humboldt Forum.

Ramsay Centre CEO Dr Martin Fahy said the workshop demonstrated the Centre’s commitment to partnering with scholars and supporting their development as thoughtful, capable leaders.

“Bringing our scholars together in Berlin and giving them the opportunity to engage with leaders such as HE Angus Campbell AO, reinforces the importance of leadership grounded in service, responsibility and historical understanding,” Dr Fahy said.

The Ramsay Centre’s Postgraduate Leadership Development Workshop forms a key part of the Centre’s broader commitment to academic excellence, leadership formation and the study of Western civilisation.
