Sydney, Wednesday 22 May 2024: The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Martin Fahy as its new CEO.

The appointment follows an extensive domestic and international search, following the decision earlier this year by Professor Simon Haines to step down as CEO.

Dr Fahy has had an extensive executive career, including recent roles as a strategy consultant and CEO of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia. He holds a PhD from the National University of Ireland and is a former academic and Fulbright Senior Scholar.

Ramsay Centre Chairman the Hon John Howard OM AC congratulated Dr Fahy on his appointment and thanked outgoing CEO Professor Simon Haines.

“The Board looks forward to supporting Dr Fahy in continuing to deliver on Paul Ramsay’s wish, fundamental to the very essence of the Centre, to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the way in which Western civilisation, its values, and philosophical tenets have shaped modern Australia.

“All members of the Board extend their thanks to the outgoing CEO Professor Simon Haines. He steered the Centre through its early years, which were not only difficult, but witnessed elements in our society seeking to frustrate the goals that the late Paul Ramsay had in mind. That it has flourished in recent years is due in large measure to Professor Haines’ skilful leadership and guidance. He will remain a close and valued friend of the Centre.”

Dr Fahy said it was a privilege to be entrusted with the late Paul Ramsay’s vision to provide unique and exciting opportunities for the study and discussion of Western civilisation. “I look forward with enthusiasm to the task ahead.”

Dr Fahy will transition into his role as CEO by the end of June.
