Sydney, Monday 09 September 2024: The Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Allan Myers AC, KC as its new Chairman.

Mr Myers, who was previously the Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, is one of His Majesty’s Counsel in all States and Territories of Australia and New Zealand, and a barrister in England and Papua New Guinea.

He has served as a non-executive director of the Ramsay Centre since August 17, 2021.

His appointment follows the retirement of the inaugural chairman of the Ramsay Centre, the Hon John Howard OM AC.

Announcing the change Mr Howard said that it had been an honour to steer the Centre in its foundational years at the request of its benefactor and his dear friend, the late Paul Ramsay AO.

He expressed his full confidence in Mr Myers continuing to deliver on Paul Ramsay’s wish, fundamental to the very essence of the Centre, to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the way in which Western civilisation, its values, and philosophical tenets have shaped modern Australia.

“Mr Myers has a wealth of experience in tertiary education, philanthropy, leadership and the law, an outstanding combination of skills to see the Centre through its next stage,” Mr Howard said.

Mr Myers thanked Mr Howard for his leadership.

“On behalf of my fellow board members I would like to thank Mr Howard for his huge contribution to the Centre’s success,” he said.
